Five Ways To Save on Prescription Drug Costs

  1. Speak up. Before you leave the doctor’s office, ask if a generic alternative is available.
  2. Use a network pharmacy. The CVS Caremark pharmacy network includes 98% of U.S. pharmacies. Go to the CVS Caremark Web site (see Contacts at the left) to find an in-network pharmacy near you.
  3. Buy generic medications. They have the same chemical makeup as brand-name drugs. The difference: They cost 30%-80% less. The Children's outpatient pharmacy provides an expansive list of generic drugs at a low cost to you and your family. See Pharmacy Services for more information.
  4. Keep your cards straight. You have separate medical and prescription ID cards. You will use your CVS Caremark ID card at the pharmacy. If you need a replacement CVS Caremark ID card, see the instructions under ID Cards at the left.
  5. Buy two months, get one month free. If you take an ongoing maintenance medication, you can receive a three-month supply for the price of a two-month supply through CVS Caremark mail order program. Plus, your medications can be delivered right to your home mailbox or to a CVS retail pharmacy of your choice. For more details, call CVS Caremark or visit their Web site (see Contacts at the left).

If you are enrolled in the Healthcare FSA, you can use your FSA debit card to pay your percentage of the cost for prescription drugs.
