Backup Dependent Care

How the Program Works

Children’s sponsors a high-quality Backup Dependent Care program for employees when regular care arrangements are not available. There is no fee to register, and Children's covers most of the costs if you use the service. You are eligible on your date of hire. For details on the programs and tips for usage, see Resources at the left.

Bright Horizons’ Backup Dependent Care programs provide employees with a safety net for those days when regular arrangements fall through. Backup care supplements normal care arrangements rather than replacing them and is a comforting emergency alternative when you need it the most. Bright Horizons’ programs offer backup care for family members of all ages — from infants to the elderly — including adults and children with special needs.

Backup Dependent Care gives you access to experienced backup care specialists 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Anyone who counts on you as a primary caregiver — infants through elderly — qualifies for this program. You are eligible if:

  • The school or childcare center is closed for the holiday.
  • Your regular caregiver is ill or takes vacation.
  • Your child or loved one is ill and requires care at home.
  • Your spouse or loved one is recovering from medical treatment.
  • You are traveling on business and need care for your child or loved one while away.

Cost

There is no cost to register for the service, and you are encouraged to register before you may need it. You only pay if you have to use the backup care. You will be billed $2 per hour per child for center-based care and $4 per hour for home care (rate applies for up to three dependents after care is received). You may use up to 100 hours per year for Backup Dependent Care. To register, visit the Bright Horizons Web site and follow the instructions listed under Contacts at the left.

Caregivers

Bright Horizons Family Solutions provides a network of outstanding childcare centers and highly qualified home care professionals available to deliver temporary care to your loved ones.

To ensure quality care, all childcare centers must meet or exceed state licensing regulations and guidelines including background checks, health and safety standards and staff-to-child ratios.
