Bereavement Leave

How It Works

Bereavement Leave is provided by Children’s to give you time off with pay after the death of a close relative. The following gives a general overview of Bereavement Leave. See the Bereavement Leave Policy under HR Benefit Policies at the left for more details.

You are eligible for Bereavement Leave if you are a regular full-time employee or a regular part-time employee who is committed to work at least 40 hours per pay period. You are eligible upon your date of hire. You may take up to three scheduled days of paid leave (based on your normal work day schedule) in the event of the death of your spouse, parent, child, sister, brother, grandparent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandparent-in-law or grandchild. Bereavement Leave includes step-relations for each of the above.

If additional time off is needed, you may use PTO. If no PTO is available, then time off without pay may be used if approved by your manager or director. Bereavement Leave is paid at your base pay rate. Your Bereavement Leave does not count against the PTO you have accrued.
